Marriage is a beautiful institution in Islam
It brings companionship, family, responsibility and the opportunity to build a life together upon faith and mutual care. Yet for many poor families, the financial cost of marriage can become a major barrier.
For a young man or woman from a struggling family, even the basic expenses associated with marriage can seem impossible to afford. A family may have the desire to see their son or daughter married, but lack the means to provide essential support.
Through Ehsaas Trust’s Marriage Assistance appeal, your donation can help provide financial assistance to deserving families in Pakistan who are unable to meet essential marriage-related costs.
Your generosity can help turn worry into relief and give a family the opportunity to begin a new chapter of their lives with dignity.
The Virtue of Giving in Islam
Charity holds a special place in Islam. Allah ﷻ repeatedly encourages believers to spend from what He has provided for them and to support those facing hardship.
Giving charity is not simply about giving money. It is an act of compassion, generosity and worship. When we help someone in genuine need, we can become part of easing a difficulty in their life.
The Prophet ﷺ also encouraged charity and highlighted its great reward. In an authentic hadith, the Prophet ﷺ explained that giving charity can carry multiple rewards when it also involves helping one’s relatives.
Helping Someone to Get Married
Supporting a person who wishes to marry but cannot afford the necessary expenses can be a meaningful form of community support.
Islam does not measure a person’s worth by their wealth. The Prophet ﷺ highlighted how people can unfairly judge the poor, including in matters of marriage. In Sahih al-Bukhari, a poor Muslim was initially regarded by others as someone whose proposal would not be accepted, but the Prophet ﷺ corrected this attitude and emphasised the value of the poor believer.
This provides an important reminder: financial hardship should not be a person’s barrier to dignity or their opportunity to establish a family.
Islam also places great emphasis on justice and protecting the rights of those entering marriage. The Prophet ﷺ stressed that marriage arrangements must be fair and that a woman’s rights, including her proper Mahr, must be respected.
